Union Minister to lay the foundation stone in the first week of April

GULBARGA: Work on infrastructure development at the Union Government-assisted food park on the outskirts of Jewargi in Gulbarga district is likely to begin soon. Rayalaseema Concrete Sleepers Ltd. will execute the project.

Chief Executive Officer of the company S.S. Patil told presspersons here on Saturday that Union Minister of State for Food Processing Subodh Kant Sahay will lay the foundation stone for the park in the first week of April. He said the foundation stone for the project was to be laid on Sunday, but it was cancelled owing to the busy schedule of the Minister. The company will set up a processing unit, grading unit, a cold storage and packing facilities at the park.

He said eight food-processing companies from Bangalore, Davangere and Raichur have evinced interest in establishing their units at the park. Efforts are on to persuade food-processing majors such as Hindustan Levers and Coco Cola to establish their units at the park. Mr. Patil said that his company will also act as a special purpose vehicle (SPA) and attract investments. The Central Food Technological Research Institute has been requested to establish its regional centre at the park to enable food-processing industries to make use of its expertise in the field. The Union Government has sanctioned food parks to be established in Malur, Bagalkot, Gulbarga, Belgaum, Chitradurga. Land for parks in Malur and Davangere has been acquired and handed over to the agencies concerned.
