A resident of Badakal Galli in Belagavi district has complained to the police that a former tenant tried to offer his daughter as human sacrifice on Mahalaya Amavasya, which fell on Tuesday, in order to “seek revenge against him”.

According to Mohammad Ghose Peerzade, his former tenant Masabi and her friend allegedly tried to kidnap his daughter and kill her as an offering to the dark forces. However, Peerzade found an eight-foot pit in Masabi’s house and grew suspicious that the two were up to some mischief.

Peerzade also told the police that the accused had asked his daughter to come to their house in the evening. But he prevented her from going. By evening, he called police officers and took them to the house. He lodged a complaint later.

Probe on

“A black mask, some incense sticks, oil and a lemon were found near the pit. We are looking into whether the accused were trying some kind of black magic or whether the allegations are false,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amarnath Reddy.

Masabi has been arrested.
