Veerashaiva MLAs felicitated

MYSORE, AUG. 1. The newly-elected MLAs belonging to the Veerashaiva community were felicitated by the Veerashaiva Mahasabha here on Sunday.

Sri Shivarathrideshikendra Swami of Suttur Math felicitated the elected representatives from across the State, including the Union Minister of State for Planning, M.V. Rajashekaran, the Revenue Minister, M.P. Prakash, the Leader of the Opposition, B.S. Yediyurappa, MLAs, H.S. Mahadevprasad and Parimala Nagappa, among others.

Well-known scholar and litterateur, Sa.Shi. Marulaiah, urged the elected representatives to work for the betterment of society and the community. He said that political leaders should strive for the unification of various Veerashaiva sects and bring them on a common platform.

Academician and rationalist K. Ramdas said in a release that the felicitation programme made a mockery of the democratic principles and that the organisers of the programme betrayed a lack of understanding of the principles of Basavanna, who fought against discrimination.
