VC tells doctors to serve society without any expectations

`Medical profession is unique and incomparable'

BELLARY: Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, called upon doctors to serve the society without expecting material benefits.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Doctors' Day programme organised by the Bellary branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) at the auditorium of ASM College for Women here on Monday.

Stating that medical profession is unique and cannot be compared with other professions, Dr. Prabhakaran said to serve society, doctors should have determination, sincerity and honesty.

V.N. Kulkarni, Satyavanta Rao, Mohammed Khizer, all medical professionals; M. Nagaraja Rao, senior journalist; V.T. Kale, artiste from Sandur, were felicitated in recognition of their yeomen service in their respective fields.

The Bellary branch of Family Planning Association of India was also honoured for its remarkable work in taking up the cause of health of women. Rajeshwari and Priyanshu Mathur, who were adjudged as the best outgoing students of Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences, were also felicitated.

Later, in a cultural programme, the doctors participated in the fancy dress competition. Mysore Anand and Richard Lewis, who were the guest artistes, enthralled the audience. Y.C. Yoganand Reddy, president of IMA, welcomed the gathering. B.K. Sundar, secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
