Vachana Vijayotsava in Bidar from February 12

Slain rationalist Narendra Dhabolkar has been selected for the Basava Seva Puraskar by the Bidar-based Basava Seva Pratishthan.

The selection has been made in recognition of Dhabolkar’s involvement in the fight against blind beliefs and black magic, Akka Annapurna, head of the pratishthan, told presspersons here on Friday.


The award will be given to his daughter Deepti during the three-day Vachana Vijayotsava to be held at Basava Giri here from February 12.

Ashok Pattan, Chief Whip of the Legislative Assembly, will inaugurate the event.

Madhu, wife of police sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande, who was killed in a shootout in Gulbarga recently, will hoist the flag.

Quiz mater Na. Someshwara and zilla panchayat member Veeranna Patil will be present.

Vachana scholars would discuss various issues during the sessions to be held from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day, during the vijayotsava, Akka Annapurna said. Books of Vachanas would be taken in a procession on the last day, she said.


A team, led by O.L. Nagabhushan Swamy, which has created the Vachana Sanchaya, online database of Vachanas, would be felicitated.

Om Shivaprakash, member of the team, would deliver a lecture.

Over 50,000 people were expected to attend the event on all the three days, she said.
