Two panchayat officials suspended

GULBARGA, JULY 24. The Chief Executive Office of the Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat, Subodh Yadav, today placed under suspension two gram panchayat secretaries, who were allegedly involvement in the misuse of foodgrains supplied under the food-for-work programme in the district, pending a departmental inquiry.

In two separate orders issued here today, Mr. Yadav placed the gram panchayat secretaries of Hungunta, Gopal Krishna, and Sannati, Sharanaiah Swamy, under suspension. The police recovered 24 tonnes of foodgrains from two trucks at Malkhed on July 19, and arrested four Andhra Pradesh-based foodgrain dealers. The detainees told the police that the foodgrains had been lifted from the Warehousing Corporation godown in Chitapur.

An investigation by the police revealed that the foodgrains were being transported to Mumbai for sale in the open market, and the foodgrains had been allotted to the gram panchayats for taking up the Jal Rakshana Programme.
