Two killed in road accident at Perne

PUTTUR: Two people died on the spot an one person was critically injured when an empty mines lorry collided with the car in which they were travelling at a hairpin bend on the Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway 48 at Perne under Uppinangady Police Station limits near here on Friday.

A. Subramanyeshwara Rao, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Puttur sub-division told The Hindu that the mines lorry veered to extreme right of the road while negotiating the hairpin bend. Lokesh Pergade, the former national vice-president of Jaycees International and Vishwanath Shetty, occupants of the car, were killed.

Nonaiah Shetty, the third occupant, was critically injured and has been admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. Uppinangady police have seized the lorry. They have registered a case and are investigating, Mr. Rao added.

Suicide

Koraga Naika (58) was drowned when he accidentally fell into a tank at Kalmadka Puchchame village under Subramanya Police Station limits on Friday. Subramanya Police have registered a case and are investigating.
