Training programme on alternative building material

MYSORE: While the construction industry is witnessing a boom, there is need to promote micro-enterprises for the manufacture of alternative building material. In an effort to popularise these material, the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) and Centre for Appropriate Rural Technologies (CART) have organised a training programme in the production of alternative building material from Thursday.

The two-day training programme will commence at the National Institute of Engineering here. The Chief Executive Officer of the Mysore Zilla Panchayat, K.R. Niranjan, and deputy general manger, Grasim Industries, V. Ramachandra, will participate.

The training programme will include technical, social and economic aspects, a press release said. Among the alternative building material, micro concrete roofing tiles, hollow concrete blocks, solid concrete blocks, soil stabilised blocks, ferro cement building components and pre-cast components will be promoted as cost effective and eco-friendly products. As the demand for alternative-building material is growing, promoting such materials is necessary, the release added.
