Expressing concern about the safety of riders, D. Kishore Babu, Superintendent of Police, has said that most of the road accidents are owing to violation of traffic rules.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 29th National Road Safety Week-2018 at Government Degree College (GDC) in Raichur on Tuesday. The programme was jointly organised by the Raichur district police, city traffic police, and GDC.
A majority of the riders and drivers do not have minimum knowledge about road safety. “People ride without wearing helmets or drive without seat belt. This is prevented by law,” he said and added that no one should violate law.
S.B. Patil, Additional Superintendent of Police, said 28 persons were killed in road accident in 2015 followed by 15 in 2016 and 14 persons killed and 39 injured in 2017. Seven persons were killed till the end of June this year, he said. Dastagiri Sab Dinni, principal (in charge) of GDC, and G. Harish, Deputy Superintendent of Police, were present.
