Three killed in accidents

PANAJI, AUG. 21. Three persons, including a woman, died in road accidents in Margao and Panaji on Friday.

Megha Chari (35), who was a balawadi teacher and a resident of Baga-Velim, and Nitesh Lakmu Gaonkar (26), a resident of Morpilla, were killed in an accident involving a bus near Velim in South Goa.

The Margao-bound bus crushed the victims against a compound wall after its driver lost control of the vehicle, the police said. Three motorcycles parked on the roadside were also damaged in the accident. The police have arrested the driver of the bus, Dinu Sahadev Mehta.

Babak Amir Safavi (38), a resident of Pune, who was on a visit to Goa, died of injuries after his motorcycle collided with a private bus near the Panaji bus stand on Friday. According to the Panaji Town Police, Safavi was shifted to the Goa Medical College, Bambolim, where he died.
