KANNUR: Minister for Public Works M.K. Muneer has said that upgrading of the Thalassery-Valavupara road will begin in January.

Inaugurating a bridge across the Kakkuva river, near Keezhpalli, here on Saturday, the Minister said the re-tender process would be completed in 45 days. Attributing technical reasons for the delay in starting the work under the Kerala State Transport Project, he said though the preliminary works under the project were started in 2000 in the State, land acquisition was slow. Temporary repair of the road was started, he added.

The Minister, who earlier travelled the entire stretch of the road to see the damaged portions, said the Government would take steps to cancel the licence of contractors who were delaying public works. The officials had been instructed against making any compromise with contractors who were causing inconvenience to people.
