Teachers seek salary dues

MYSORE, JAN. 18. The Mysore District Private Unaided High School Teachers' Association has said that nearly 540 teachers across the State have not been paid their salaries since more than a year.

Disclosing this to presspersons here today, Prabhukumar, convener of the association, said the teachers had been appointed following an order issued by the State Government in 2003. Following this, unaided schools called for applications through advertisements in the media and appointments were made after conducting interviews, he said.

He noted that the Government issued another order in January 2004 directing the schools to stop local appointments. But the Government has not released grants to give salaries to teachers appointed after the first order was passed.

Mr. Prabhukumar said it is unfortunate that the salaries for teachers appointed before January 2004 has been stopped, which he termed illegal. He said the association has petitioned the Education Department to seek a clarification in this matter from the Finance Department so that the Government can take a decision soon, which will pave the way for release of salaries for teachers.
