Sushma calls on war veterans

Bangalore Aug. 10. The Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sushma Swaraj, on Sunday visited the Red Cross Home for Disabled Ex-Servicemen on the Kensington Road at Ulsoor here. She was accompanied by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Kagodu Thimmappa. Over the years the number of inmates in the home has declined. The home was one of the two established in the country after the end of the Second World War. The other home at Sialkot is now in Pakistan. The Bangalore Home was inaugurated by the then Commander-in-Chief, Claude Auchinleck. It is today the only one of the kind in the country. The other home opened in Dehradun has been closed down. In later years, those disabled in the wars fought by the country after Independence were admitted to the Bangalore home.
