Strive for quality, engineers told

MANIPAL, AUG. 21. S. Gurumadhva Rao, registrar of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, on Saturday said quality should be given importance while constructing buildings and roads. He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on "Rehabilitation of concrete structures" organised by the Department of Civil Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) here. Prof. Rao said that despite all efforts, buildings and bridges were found to be of poor quality.

B.S. Prabhu, director of MIT, stressed the need to adopt asset management. Modern methods such as x-ray and vibration monitoring should be used to find out the condition of bridges, he said. U.D. Kamath welcomed the gathering.
