The BJP’s Koppal district Raitha Morcha organised a protest demonstration here on Wednesday accusing the State government of not remitting compensation to farmers under the Fasal Bima Yojana. The farmers, led by BJP leaders, including Karadi Sanganna, MP, came out in a procession and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner to be forwarded to the Chief Minister.

“The Union government has released funds under Fasal Bima Yojana, while the State government has been delaying remittance to bank accounts if farmers. This only shows the kind of concern the State government has towards the farmers,” Mr. Sanganna said, addressing members of the Raitha Morcha.

According to him, 38,530 farmers had availed of kharif crop insurance during 2016 for which the Union government released Rs. 58.52 crore. Of this, the State government remitted insurance money to the bank accounts of 34,433 farmers. It is yet to extend the facility to 4,092 farmers. Even for the rabi season of the same year, insurance amount of Rs. 77.51 crore released by the Union government has not been passed on to 65,520 farmers.

For 2017 kharif too, the State government has failed to distribute the Rs. 8.70 core to 7,258 farmers. A sum of Rs. 7.54 crore and Rs. 16.16 crore pertaining to procurement of tur and Bengal gram was due, he said and added that this was strongly condemnable.

He demanded that the State government immediately remit the crop insurance amount besides setting up an information centre in the offices of insurance companies.

“We will urge Leaders of the Opposition in the Assembly and Council, B.S. Yeddyurappa and Kota Srinivas Pujari, to raise the issue in the ongoing budget session of the legislature and pressure the government to clear the dues to the farmers.

Mallikarjun Gadagi, president of the District Raitha Morcha, Jagadish Gouda Taggimani, general secretary, Amaresh Karadi, Ramanna Chowdki and Gavisiddappa took part in the procession.
