HASSAN: Janata Dal (Secular) State Working President H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday accused the Information Minister B. Shivaram of misusing the official machinery in Chikmagalur district to ensure the success of the Congress in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

Speaking to presspersons here, he said Mr. Shivaram, who is also the district in-charge Minister of Chikmagalur, has got posted officers of his choice to ensure the victory of the Congress in the zilla and taluk panchayat elections.

Expressing his apprehensions over "free and fair elections" in Chikmagalur, he said: "Having involved himself in anti-democratic activities, Mr. Shivaram is levelling allegations against Hassan district in-charge and Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna."

Reacting to the allegations levelled by the former MP G. Puttaswamy Gowda and the former Minister H.C. Srikantaiah with regard to misappropriation of funds in development works taken up in the district, Mr. Kumaraswamy challenged them to substantiate their allegations with documents.

He said the electorate will teach a lesson to the Congress in the panchayat elections. He sought to know the contribution of the Congress to the Hassan Parliamentary constituency.
