`The people want leaders of the Janata Dal splinter groups to resolve their differences'
Bangalore: President of the Janata Dal (United) and former Union Minister Sharad Yadav said on Friday that he would make efforts to unite splinter groups of the Janata Dal, including the Janata Dal (Secular) headed by H.D. Deve Gowda.
He told presspersons here that a united "Janata parivar" had bright political prospects as the people were disillusioned with the policies of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The erstwhile Janata Party, and its successor the Janata Dal, had split not because of ideological differences between leaders but because of a clash of egos. "I shall appeal to all of them to come together on a single platform. The people want it too."
Mr. Sharad Yadav's two-day visit to Bangalore is aimed at strengthening the Janata Dal (U) in the State and conveying to party leaders and workers that he was an elected president of the party. Former Defence Minister George Fernandes, who was in Bangalore last week, had questioned the election of Mr. Sharad Yadav, and said a majority of the electoral college had boycotted the elections. Mr. Fernandes had said he would work for restoring internal democracy in the party. JD(U) State unit president B. Somashekar and party legislators had not participated in Mr. Fernandes's programme. However, they were present at Mr. Sharad Yadav's programmes on Friday.
