Separate enclosures opened forlion, tiger at Tyavarekoppa

A NEW FACILITY:B.Y. Raghavendra, MP, inaugurating the new enclosures for tiger, lion and leopard at Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari near Shimoga on Friday.  

Separate enclosures for tiger, lion and leopard constructed at a cost of Rs. 3 crore at Tyavarekoppa Lion and Tiger Safari near here were inaugurated by MP B.Y. Raghavendra on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Shimoga district would be converted into a hub of tourism in the coming days.

The State government has approved an action plan of Rs. 60 crore to provide drinking water for villages located between Shimoga and Tyavarekoppa.

The work in this regard would commence shortly. He said the PES Education Trust had adopted a tiger in Tyavarekoppa Safari.

Chairperson of Zoo Authority of Karnataka Nanjundaswmy said that it had been planned to build an aviary for birds and a separate enclosure for snakes at Tyavarekoppa Safari. A team of ornithologists will visit Tyavarekoppa shortly for spot inspection in this regard, he said.

Central Zoo Authority of India has released Rs 1.60 crore for development of Tyavarekoppa Safari. In addition to this, Zoo Authority of Karnataka has provided Rs 1.68 crore to meet the expenses related to maintenance. Roads would be developed on the safari premises at a cost of Rs. 9 lakh, he said.

Member of Rajya Sabha Ayanur Manjunath, Chairperson of Mysore Paper Mills Araga Jnanendra, and Member-Secretary of Zoo Authority of Karnataka M.N. Jaya Kumar were present.
