CHAMARAJANAGAR: Tension prevailed in Chamarajanagar town on Saturday when a high school girl, Asma Fareehin, (15) died on the spot and Aish Khan (13) was injured in a road accident. The accident took place on National Highway 209 when the auto carrying schoolgirls turned over near Pachchappa Circle. Asma Fareehin was thrown out of the auto when an approaching tractor carrying sand ran over her. An agitated mob took out a rasta roko at Bhavaneshwari Circle for about an hour. They urged the Government to construct a bypass road to minimise the movement of heavy vehicles on National Highway 209, which passes through the heart of the town.

They also urged the district administration to build pavements on either side of roads.

The mob attempted to burn the tractor and auto. However, police personnel were deployed near the accident site to keep the situation under control.

The injured girl Aish Khan was admitted to a government hospital. In-charge Deputy Commissioner Ramu and Police Superintendent Ravindra Prasad visited the spot.

Mr. Prasad and Mr. Ramu assured the agitators that action will be taken against those found guilty.

The town police have registered a case against the vehicle drivers.
