Samajwadi Party forms Kodagu unit, to contest in panchayat poll

Madikeri: The Samajwadi Party, whose district unit was constituted here on Monday, will contest all zilla and taluk panchayat seats in the district, scheduled for December 19.

Party's district unit president Ben Ganapathy told presspersons here on Monday that party State unit president S. Bangarappa had taken a decision to this effect.

Candidates with integrity and adequate qualification will be fielded and made accountable to work for the district's development.

To a question, Mr. Ganapathy ruled out any truck with other major parties in the district for the elections. The selection of candidates will be finalised in 10 days.

Conventions

The party believed in organising conventions in rural parts of the taluks not on a big scale in urban centres, party unit general secretary T. Sai Kumar said. Mr. Bangarappa will attend such conventions in future.

Party's youth wing president Ravi Thammaiah said opportunities will be given to youth to contest the elections as youth force can tackle the district's problems successfully. The full body of the district youth wing will be constituted soon, he said.

Mr. Ganapathy announced the names of office-bearers of the district unit approved by Mr. Bangarappa.

B. Ratnakar Shetty is the president of the Virajpet taluk and T.S. Mani its vice-president. B.M. Thimmaiah is the president of the Madikeri taluk unit and M. Ravi president of the Somwarpet taluk unit. K.A. Subbaiah is the president of Madikeri town wing and K.M. Krishna is the president of the district SC/ST cell and H.R Ashok its secretary. K.D. Cariappa will be the district unit treasurer.

Mr. Ganapathy said the party office will be opened at the Industrial Estate here on November 23. Party's State unit general secretary Govindaraj, the former MLA Papanna will attend the function. Mr. Thimmaiah, Mr. Subbaiah, Mr. Krishna and Mr. Ashok were present.
