SHIMOGA: The Deputy General Manager (Electrical) VISL, V. Subramanyam, said here on Saturday that increasing bureaucratic hassles are hampering industrial progress.

Inaugurating a seminar on "Recent advances in metrology and calibration," organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru National College of Engineering, he said bureaucratic approach of administrators has forced the closure of several small industrial units.

He said that if the Indian engineers have put up an impressive performance in foreign countries, it is mainly because of the healthy and congenial industrial atmosphere.

Mr. Subramanyam said: "Metrology does not pertain to a single subject but is a combination of many theories ranging from mathematics to physics."

He said it is heartening to note that universities are giving more importance to research work than ever before. He suggested that universities maintain contacts with industries as it will go a long way in overcoming the problems facing the industries.
