Rathnamma Heggade cremated

BELTHANGADY: Rathnamma Heggade, mother of D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, who died in a road accident near here on Saturday, was cremated on Sunday.

The cremation took place near the Chandranatha Swami Basadi at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala at 2.30 a.m.

Surendra Kumar, Harshendra Kumar and Rajendra Kumar, sons of Rathnamma Heggade, lit the funeral pyre.

Dr. Heggade, Padmalatha, his sister, Niranjan, her husband and other members of the Heggade family, were present.

The last rites were performed once Dr. Heggade, who was away in Shravanabelagola for Mahamastakabhisheka rituals, and Rajendra Kumar and Padmalatha, away in Bangalore and Dharwad, respectively, returned to Dharmasthala.

Ramanath Rai and Amarnath Shetty, former ministers; Abhayachandra Jain, MLA; Ananthakrishna, Chairman of the Karnataka Bank; Harikrishna Punaroor, former President of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat; Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, President of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat; B. Dayananda, Superintendent of Police; Dharmakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Jain Basadi, Karkala; Lalitakeerthi Bhattaraka Swamiji of Sri Kshetra Shravanabelagola, and Mohan Alva, Chairman of the Alvas' Education Foundation, were present.

Condolences

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Chief Minister N. Dharam Singh have mourned the death of Rathnamma Heggade. Deputy Commissioner H.V. Parshwanath represented them at the funeral.

S.M. Krishna, Governor of Maharasthra; Shivaratri Desikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math, and Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, have sent their condolences.
