To mark 225th birth anniversary of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar

Exotic and rare varieties of plants that are also indigenous would be planted at the Oriental Research Institute (ORI) in the city on Tuesday to mark the 225th birth anniversary of Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar.

ORI Director S.Shivarajappa said that the event was being held in association with the Horticulture Department of the University of Mysuru and Sri Jayachamaraja Urs Educational Trust. Nearly 30 varieties of species would be planted by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family.

He said the objective was to commemorate the birth anniversary of the king who was a legend in various fields. ORI will also exhibit literary works and palm leaf manuscripts in its collections to create public awareness on Indian tradition and heritage. “The ORI has over 70,000 collections and prominent works like Kautilya’s Arthashastra and Sri Tattvanidhi, a work authored by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar on various aspects of Indian traditional knowledge, would be exhibited.”

The exhibition would be inaugurated by S.K.Venkatagodi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Mysuru, and T.K.Umesh, Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore, will be present.
