Rain most intense in central, northern parts

Rainfall was most intense in central and north Bengaluru, says the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC).

Sampangiram Nagar received over 79.5 mm in a span of three hours, while Kammanahalli in north-east Bengaluru received 70 mm.

The sudden rain, accompanied by strong winds, took much of Bengaluru by surprise. Tree falls were reported from Chamrajpet, J.P. Nagar, Hanumanthnagar and other places. “Our teams are trying to clear the trees,” said Mayor G. Padmavathi, who was coordinating with civic officials. The BBMP control room received over 55 complaints, including of waterlogging and tree falls.
