Private colleges file petition in Supreme Court

BANGALORE: Private college managements on Friday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the fees fixed by the Rangavittalachar Fee Fixation Committee.

The college managements affiliated to the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) said that the fees fixed by the panel are too low and the college managements were not consulted before fixing the fees. The Supreme Court has admitted the petition and posted it for hearing on April 25.

Last week, the panel fixed the fees for engineering, MBA, MCA and paramedical courses, including nursing, for 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07.

COMED-K, the Karnataka Private Dental Colleges Association, Engineering Colleges Association and Minority Colleges Association opposed the fee structure on the premise that it is too low.
