Priority to education in rural areas, says Kumaraswamy

Plan to introduce scholarships for girl students

Udupi: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said on Saturday that his Government is committed to giving priority to education in rural areas. He was speaking after inaugurating the new building of the Rukmini Shedti Memorial National Government First Grade College at Barkur in Udupi district.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the Government plans to provide various facilities to 10 girls from every taluk from the high school level till higher education level. Scholarships or facilities so given will be named after Kittur Rani Chennamma.

Rural students are lagging behind in professional courses. Hence the Government is also thinking of paying the fees of these students, Mr. Kumaraswamy said. Shantaram Shetty welcomed the gathering.

Earlier, the Chief Minister had lunch at the house of a priest, Hrishikesha Bairy at Barkur.
