Petty shops damaged as fort wall falls

BANGALORE Oct. 31. Six petty shops were damaged when a portion of the Tipu Fort in Kalasipalyam collapsed on Thursday. However, there were no casualties.

Two of the shops were closed for the day, while a third was unattended when the fort wall collapsed. In all, there were four outlets selling brass utensils, a footwear shop and one selling readymade garments.

Huge blocks of cement and stone fell on the shops with a loud noise. Petty businessmen of the area immediately got into the act, fending off pedestrians from closing in.

A portion of the fort was renovated about six months ago.
