MYSORE: The Superintendent of Police has asked those intending to install idols of Ganesha to seek permission from jurisdictional police stations on or before August 20.

A release said that the applications in the prescribed format have to be submitted to the police stations seeking permission to install Ganesha idols in public places. This was being enforced to maintain law and order, it added. The application should contain the no objection certificate from the owner of the place, which would be used to install the idol, clearances from Chescom and the Fire Department. A separate request to install loud speakers, a list of office-bearers of the organisation that intends to install the idol, a list of the programme schedule and an affidavit by the organisation that no untoward incident would take place should be submitted. The release said loud speakers had to be switched off by 10 p.m. and added that action would be taken against the violators under the Environment Protection Act. The police have warned people against seeking donations forcibly. The mantaps where the idols are to be installed should not affect the movement of traffic .
