Madikeri: A week-long National Integration Camp, involving over 150 women students from different universities, will begin here on Monday.

Lt. Gen. B.C. Nanda (retd.) will inaugurate the camp at the Cauvery Kalakshetra here at 3 p.m. The camp, which is aimed at inculcating the message of national integration among students, will lay stress on empowerment of women, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College principal Pushpa Kuttanna said here on Sunday.

Two students from every university in the State will take part in the camp, apart from students from Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Goa, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Pondichery, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, and Rajastan. Students will interact with one another, understand their culture by visiting colleges in the district, and take part in cultural programmes during the camp.

Madikeri MLA K.G. Bopaiah, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav, Superintendent of Police Devajyoti Ray, Assistant Programme Advisor of the National Service Scheme (NSS) H.S. Suresh, will attend the inaugural function. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor K.M. Kaveriappa will preside over the function.

After the inauguration at the Cauvery Kalakshetra, rest of the programmes will be held at Kodava Samaja building here. M.S. Vignesh of the College of Agriculture Sciences, Shimoga, will present a lecture on "Achievements and motivation".

Kodagu District Bharat Scouts and Guides Chief Commissioner, K.T. Baby Mathew, will be the guest and K.K. Poonacha, Head, Department of Chemistry of Cariappa College, will preside over the programme.

Assistant Station Director of All India Radio, Madikeri, Indira Gajraj, will be the resource person at 6 p.m. on Tuesday on "Women empowerment". Kannada Sahitya Parishat Kodagu district unit president T.P. Ramesh will be the guest and Kodagu Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Sundar Naik will preside over the programme. K.V.P. Gupta of the Canara Bank from Hassan will speak on "Women entrepreneurship" at 6 p.m. on January 25.


On January 26, students will take part in the Republic Day parade at the Man's Compound here in the morning and attend a lecture on "AIDS awareness" at Kodava Samaja from 11.30 a.m. to be delivered by H.V. Devdas, District AIDS Nodal Officer.

At 2.30 p.m., Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kodagu Kendra Chairman K.P. Uthappa will deliver a lecture on "Status of women in society".

On January 28, Air Marshal K.C. Cariappa (retd.), son of late Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, will inaugurate the function at the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College to commemorate the 107th birth anniversary of the late Field Marshal at 11 a.m. The former Minister M.M. Nanaiah will be one of the guests. College principal Pushpa Kuttanna will preside over the function. Cultural programmes will be conducted from 12.30 p.m.


The valedictory will be held at the Cauvery Kalakshetra on January 29. The former Minister M.C. Nanaiah will deliver the valedictory address at 10 a.m. Somwarpet MLA B.A. Jivijaya, Mangalore University NSS Coordinator R. Gopal will be guests. Mangalore University Registrar K. Sundar Naik will preside over the function.

The camp is being organised jointly by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mangalore University, and the Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa College.
