Water level in the Narayanpur reservoir in Hunsagi taluk of Yadgir district is just one metre short of its full level after it received heavy amounts of inflow from the Alamatti dam owing to heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Krishna catchment areas in Maharashtra.

According to sources, by 6.45 p.m. on Wednesday, officials of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited (KBJNL) have initiated action to release 1,46,000 cusecs of water into river course against an inflow of 1,53,000 cusecs of water at the reservoir.

The water level in the reservoir stood at 491.20 m against the full reservoir level of 492.25 m.

Apart from this, the officials released 2,000 cusecs of water each into the Narayanpur Left and Right branch canals.

They have cautioned villagers on river banks not to venture into the river course for fishing or any other purpose as there may be a possibility of the water level going up suddenly.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner J. Manjunath told The Hindu that residents on the river banks have been alerted by revenue officials who were deployed after water from the reservoir was released. The officials advised the villagers not to go near the river course as it was swollen following heavy amounts of water discharge.
