Muslim association president asked to quit

MADIKERI, APRIL 24. The former vice-president of the Kodagu District Muslim Association, I. Majid Khan, and a few of its members on Saturday demanded that the president of the association, Hafiz Khan, resign from the post for "supporting" the Janata Dal (S).

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Majid Khan alleged that Mr. Hafiz Khan had used the association's letter pad to send an appeal to the Muslims to vote for the Janata Dal (S) candidate in the Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency, A.K. Subbaiah, and the party nominees in the eight Assembly constituencies in Mangalore. Five segments in Dakshina Kannada district and three in Kodagu are under the Mangalore Lok Sabha Constituency.

He said that the Kodagu District Muslim Association was an apolitical body and it had not favoured any political party or its candidates during elections. Mr. Hafiz Khan had not taken the permission of any of the 25 directors of the association or consult its members before distributing pamphlets.
