Module for human pre-flight tests handed over to ISRO

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. said it has handed over the structure of the first crew module for the human space flight programme experiment planned by the Indian Space Research Organisation.

According to HAL, whose Aerospace Division regularly provides satellite, launcher stages and their fuel tanks, besides other systems to ISRO, the crew module structure was recently handed over to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre. The Thiruvananthapuram-based VSSC is ISRO’s rocket development unit. ISRO plans to put the crew module prototype as the payload when it conducts a partial or ‘sub-orbital’ flight test in May of the GSLV Mark III, the heavy launcher that it is developing. ISRO is developing the technologies critical to sustain humans during a near-Earth flight of a few days.
