MLC criticises delay in getting information

CHIKMAGALUR: D.M. Putte Gowda, MLC and vice-president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, has alleged that the functioning of the Chikmagalur Zilla Panchayat is "sluggish and unresponsive."

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, he criticised the delay in obtaining information about the implementation of watershed area development schemes in the district.

Mr. Gowda said more than Rs. 80 crores has been spent for these schemes in the past five years.

Implementation of watershed development schemes has been handed over to gram panchayats from this year and providing details about their implementation will help gram panchayats form their action plans.

Mr. Gowda said he would to use his local area development fund to provide computers to high schools in rural areas, provided gram panchayats and school betterment committees take the responsibility for their maintenance and insurance.
