Medical college to host first alumni meet

GULBARGA: The four-decade-old Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College, which is one of the premier medical institutions in the country, will host the first alumni meet on the college premises for two days from November 26.

Disclosing this to the presspersons here on Monday, Medical College director P.S. Shankar, Organising Committee chairman Mallikarjun Bhandari and secretary Mallikarjun Nisty said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, an alumnus of the college, will be the chief guest on the inaugural day.

Dr. Reddy will lay the cornerstone for the Alumni Hall to be constructed on the premises of the Basaveshwar General and Teaching Hospital attached to the college here.

More than 750 former students of the college have registered their names and confirmed their participation and 300 more registrations are expected, Dr. Shankar said.

Alumni to be felicitated

Dr. Nisty said that on the first day distinguished alumni, including Vivek Jawali, Sharad Tanga, Mallikarjun Jali and J.P. Krishne Gowda, who have won the Rajyotsava Award, will be felicitated.

B.G. Jawali, three-time Lok Sabha member and President of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, Dr. Shankar and 20 other senior teachers will also be felicitated.

Dr. Shankar said a commemorate souvenir, "Smriti," will be brought out on the occasion.

On the second day, 20 alumni, who have excelled in their field of specialisation, will deliver lectures. This will be followed by the general body meeting where the constitution and bylaws of the alumni association will be adopted. It has been decided tentatively to organise alumni meets once in five years.
