`Make use of subsidies'

CHITRADURGA, AUG. 14. The chief executive officer of the Chitradurga Zilla Panchayat, Narayanaswamy, has said that agriculture will take a new turn only when advances in farming techniques and technologies reach small and marginal farmers.

Inaugurating a workshop on "Agri-clinic and agribusiness" jointly organised by the Agriculture Technology Institute and the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) here on Friday, Mr. Narayanaswamy asked farmers to make use of various subsidies provided by the Government.

He called upon graduates in agriculture to enlighten farmers about the recent scientific techniques in the field to make agriculture more profitable.

V.R. Khan, deputy chief manager of NABARD, said that banks should extend interest-free loans for agriculture, and graduates should make use of the Government proposal to open agri-clinics and agribusiness centres in 10 districts of the State.

Rajanna, chairman of the technical farm-training institute, presided over the function. He urged the Government to provide incentives to open agri-clinics. Chitradurga district would provide opportunities for apiculture as it is fast evolving as a centre of horticulture, he said.
