‘Rs. 2,000 crore for students' projects'

The team from Sri Prouda Devaraya Engineering College, Hospet, bagged the trophy for best performance at the 33rd Students Projects Exhibition, that ended here on Wednesday.

The four-day event was organised by the Karnataka State Council of Science and Technology at Shridevi Insititute of Engineering and Technology.

Eighty student-teams from as many engineering colleges from the State exhibited their projects.

Samadhanam, Scientist and Head of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi, and M.R. Hulinaykar, MLC, gave away the trophy to the winners.

Mr. Samadhanam said the Union Government had earmarked Rs. 2,000 crore for promoting students' projects in a way they could be developed and put to use by a large number of people.

“Students' inventions must not be limited to study in colleges. Their innovations must be transformed into practical use by the people,” he said.

‘Become entrepreneurs'

Mr. Hulinaykar said the students should be trained to become entrepreneurs.
