‘Probe links of accused in sword seizure case’

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar, senior BJP leader, on Friday alleged that accused in the Margao sword seizure case were suspected to have links with Bangladeshi extremists.

Talking to presspersons here on Friday on the party’s strategy to counter the Congress-led Government on the floor of the House during the five-day State Assembly session beginning on February 2, Mr. Parrikar said that the State Government had raised the ante in the name of high terror perception for a few days during Christmas and New Year celebrations, only to lower the guard thereafter and return to its usual “cavalier attitude” on law and order issue. He wanted the Government to investigate links of a few accused who were arrested by the police for procuring swords that were seized by the police ahead of a communal tension in Margao a few months ago.

Mr. Parrikar said that according to his information, the Intelligence Bureau had information about their links with Bangladeshi extremists.

The Government had failed to check the uncontrolled flow of migrants, including Lamanis, on beaches and beggars in cities and towns, he said.
