‘Government’s achievements have silenced Congress leaders’

Yediyurappa launches work for modernisation of the Bhadra channels

DAVANGERE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that remarkable achievements of the coalition Government in the past 16 months had left the Congress without valid issues.

He was speaking after laying foundation stone for modernisation of the Bhadra channels at a cost of Rs. 780 crore, here on Wednesday.

Mr. Yediyurappa said that Congress leaders had taunted the Government when it announced cooperative loans at four per cent interest and waiver of farm loans up to Rs. 25,000.

They had said that the announcements were all mere promises which could not be fulfilled. The Government had fulfilled all its promises and silenced Congress, he said and added that Congress could not tolerate the growing popularity of the Government.

Airports

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the Government had decided to construct airports at Gulbarga, Mysore and Shimoga. He also listed the achievements of the Government in the fields of irrigation, education and health.

Minister for Irrigation K.S. Eshwarappa said that over 1,383 post engineers would be filled soon through Karnataka Public Service Commission.

He said that over 700 tanks in the Cauvery basin would be rejuvenate in the next two years. The Minister said that work on Tuppadahalli lift irrigation project would commence by August 15 at a cost of Rs. 125 crore.

Minister for Sugar S.A. Ravindranath and MP G.M. Siddeshwar spoke.

Deputy Commissioner M.B. Dyaberi welcomed the gathering.

Executive Engineer, Irrigation Department Odo Gangappa explained the modernisation works of the Bhadra channels.

MLA Gurusiddana Gowda and chairman of Command Area Development Authority B.P. Harish were present.
