BELLARY: The Government is keen on developing the Bellary airport under
a public-private partnership model, Tourism Minister B. Sriramulu has said. Speaking to presspersons on Friday, Mr. Sriramulu said the idea was to ensure that the airport became functional. “A committee, headed by the Deputy Commissioner will be formed to chalk out a detailed plan of action, including framing of a lease policy, he said. The airport is spread on a 192-acre campus, of which 22 acres is revenue land, while 9.24 acres belongs to the Airports Authority of India. The major portion of land belongs to the Air Force. The proposal of the Government assumes significance in view of keen private interest being evinced, as many mine owners and industrialists own helicopters. Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav said the Government had approved the construction of a boundary wall.
