‘Failures will be highlighted’

Bangalore: Congress — the main Opposition in the Legislative Council — has decided corner the Yeddyurappa Government on a number of issues, including slow progress of relief works in flood-ravaged areas and the power cuts, during the budget session of the legislature.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Leader of the Opposition in the Council Motamma said the Government had neglected rehabilitation work in the north Karnataka districts that had affected by floods.

Ms. Motamma, who toured Bagalkot and Bijapur districts, said many families had been denied houses and sites by the district authorities. It was impossible for the Government to provide houses to all flood-hit victims before the monsoon, she claimed.

The Government had spent Rs. 75 crore for celebrating the 500th anniversary of the coronation of Krishnadevaraya at Hampi when a large number of flood victims were suffering, she said. On power cuts, Ms. Motamma said the Government had failed to provide round the clock power due to bad management.

She also criticised the acquisition of agricultural land across the State by the Government under the pretext of creating land bank for allotment to prospective investors. Repeated assurances from Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa that the Government was not acquiring vast tracts of land had failed to convince farmers, she added.
