Gulbarga: Self-Help Groups, charitable institutions and non-governmental organisations may submit ‘Expression of Interest’ (EoI) for collection and disposal of solid waste from houses in the 55 wards of the corporation. Commissioner of the Gulbarga City Corporation K.G. Jagadeesh made this announcement at a press conference here on Friday.

The corporation will not make any payment for collecting and disposing of solid waste. The group or agency which will take up the task will be asked to collect a fee of Rs. 20 a month from each house and Rs. 40 from people in commercial buildings. However, families below the poverty line (BPL) and those families that are financially weak will be exempted from payment of fees.

Interested group or agency may submit the ‘Expression of Interest’ to the corporation on or before February 4, Mr. Jagadeesh informed.

In case residents of houses refuse to make the payment for collection of solid waste, the corporation will have the right to disconnect water connections.

Besides this, the corporation will not take up any cleaning work around the houses of residents who do not pay the fee for collection of solid waste, Mr. Jagadeesh said. Residential Welfare Associations will assist the agency or group which will take up the task.

Mr. Jagadeesh said the corporation has sent a proposal to the State Government for filling up vacant posts.
