BIDAR: D.K. Siddaram, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Industry of the zilla panchayat, has alleged that Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has shown “disrespect” to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, and district in-charge and Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamagi because their photographs were not printed in the invitation cards to the Bidar Utsav. The utsav is to be held from January 27 to 29 on the Bidar Fort premises.

Alleged

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, Mr. Siddaram, who belongs to the Congress, alleged that Mr. Gupta, in his capacity as chairman of the District Culture Council, had included his photograph in the invitation cards along with artistes participating in the utsav.

Mr. Siddaram said that a group of leaders from the district had gone to meet Minister for Tourism Janaradhan Reddy to invite him for the inaugural function of the utsav, a couple of days ago.

Mr. Reddy was reportedly irked when he saw the invitation card.

“Mr. Reddy threw the invitation cards and took the leaders took to task,” he said.

Mr. Siddaram claimed that MP from Bidar Narsinghrao Suryawanshi and MLAs Gurupadappa Nagaramappali, Bandeppa Kashempur, Rajshekar Patil, Ishwar Khandre, Basavraj Patil Attur and Prabhu Chavan, who had been made members of the committee had also been “sidelined”. He said he would bring the matter to the notice of Mr. Belamagi and Mr. Nagamarapalli on Monday as they would be in Bidar to hoist the national flag on Republic Day.

Mr. Siddaram asked Mr. Gupta to tender an “apology” to the people of Bidar for the “disrespect” shown to the elected representatives. He should either cancel or postpone the event, Mr. Siddaram said.

He added that he was speaking as an elected representative and that his statements were not “politically motivated.”

Babu Wali, spokesperson of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and chairman of Bidar Utsav advisory committee, said that he would speak to Mr. Gupta on the issue.
