Chitradurga: Writer, film maker and social activist Baraguru Ramachandrappa has averred that the social evils such as communalism and casteism were more perilous to the society than illegal mining.

Mr. Ramachandrappa was speaking at a seminar on “Literature, Cinema and Culture” held here on Sunday.

Stating that communal forces were dividing the nation, he regretted that those sections which were intending to divide the country were united but those who were secular were divided on many issues. “This is the greatest irony of our times,” he said.

Earlier, writer and thinker G. Ramakrishna lamented that some communal forces were creating a new type of untouchability in society, mainly in the coastal region of the State. “A few self-proclaimed protectors of culture are spreading the agenda of communal hatred. They do not wish the people of the two communities and religion to mingle. They are opposing this unity which is nothing but a creation of new type of untouchability in the county. What sort of culture are they protecting?” he questioned.

Mr. Ramakrishna opposed the usage of the term “Love Jihad”. He said such theories were propagated only to divide society on the lines of religion.
