Udupi: The Udupi district unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) has charged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with neglecting development of Udupi district.

In a press release issued here on Monday, president of the district unit of Janata Dal (S) Deviprasad Shetty said that the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to saffronise the cooperative sector. The BJP had forced the zilla panchayat to passing a resolution on the formation of a separate DCC Bank only to score political points and further its agenda.

It was the BJP which was ruling the State now. The BJP MLAs should prevail upon their government to create a separate DCC Bank for Udupi district. In the next zilla panchayat meeting, another resolution should be passed to press for separate units of milk producers’ union, Fisheries federation, Agricultural Development Cooperative Society and Horticultural Co-operative Marketing Society for Udupi district. At present, there is a single body for these four organisations for Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts), he said.
