KRISHNAGIRI: Loans with subsidy will be given to small farmers to take up flower cultivation in the district, said Collector Mangat Ram Sharma at a seminar at Shoolagiri here on Thursday.

Considering the interest of small farmers, a scheme had already been prepared for growing cut flowers in small green houses in the clusters of Berigai, Kelamangalam and Thally.

A loan of Rs. 4 lakhs would be provided to the farmers.

Venture capital fund

While National Horticulture Board would provide 20 per cent of the outlay as subsidy, another 20 per cent would be provided as venture capital fund from the Small Farmers Agri Business Consortium of the Tamil Nadu Government and the remaining would be bank loans. Tanflora could provide marketing support for the scheme. Under the scheme, farmers would be formed into groups and each farmer should set up individual green houses on 12 cents of land.

Sale

The flowers could be sold either through Tanflora or private buyers in other markets. A cooling chamber and refrigerated vehicles would also be provided to the farmers, Mr. Sharma said. National Horticulture Board, Managing Director, Suren Sanara participated.
