Libraries at all schools soon, says Minister

TENHIPALAM: Education Minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer has said that libraries will soon be set up at all Government and aided schools in the State. He was speaking after inaugurating a new building of M.E.M.S. English Medium School on Calicut University campus on Sunday evening.

The Minister was all praise for the grading system adopted by schools in the State. He said the CBSE too would soon adopt the Kerala model of grading system.

Emphasising the importance of ensuring quality education for children, Mr. Basheer said that schools following CBSE and State streams should be equally encouraged. M.K. Sreekumar Nair, managing trustee of the school, presided over the function. Calicut University Registrar P.P. Mohammed delivered the keynote address.

Among those who addressed the gathering were P.P. Sreedharanunni, former director of All India Radio (AIR), Kozhikode; C. Naseema, head of the Department of Adult Education; R. Surendran, Gandhian and visiting professor of Hindi at Calicut University, and S. Preeta, Syndicate member.

P.P. Suresh Kumar, a resource person for the school, spoke on `value and moral education'.

School principal A. Thankam welcomed the gathering. PTA president Manohara Kumar proposed a vote of thanks.
