MYSORE: Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Open University K. Sudha Rao has urged the striking temporary employees of the varsity to return to work in the light of inconvenience caused to thousands of students. She said the issue will be taken up with the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

In a press release issued here on Saturday, Dr. Rao said the temporary employees should cooperate with the KSOU administration.

The only solution in sight is to hold discussions with the State Government.

She said the KSOU officials have been making efforts to secure the demands of the contract workers and that steps have been initiated in this regard. She said that the salaries have been revised and credited to the employees' bank accounts, computer training has been provided to the employees besides offering adequate emoluments for other duties performed.

She said efforts are being made to find a solution to the problem within the ambit of law. The varsity has not followed guidelines while appointing employees on a temporary basis, she added.

Dr. Rao also said that an interim compensation package has been worked out and sent to the Government for approval.
