KRRS stages `rasta roko'

SHIMOGA: Activists of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a "rasta roko" at the Ameer Ahmed Circle here on Thursday in support of the demands of farmers and farm labourers.

Their main demands include the withdrawal of the increase in the prices of essential commodities and the proposed move to increase bus fare, the changes in the proposed Seeds Act 2004, dropping the APMC Model Act 2003, enhancing subsidy for farm produce, effective implementation of crop insurance scheme and greater allocation for irrigation and energy sectors.

The demonstration was led by, among others, the State General Secretary of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (Puttannaiah Group), H.R. Basavarajappa.
