Krishna meets CJ

Bangalore Aug. 26. The Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, called on the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, Nagendra Kumar Jain, here this evening to reiterate the Government's stand in favour of establishing a Bench of the Court in North Karnataka. He has also convened an all-party meeting on the issue here on Thursday morning.

Speaking to presspersons after the meeting with the Chief Justice which lasted about an hour, Mr. Krishna said that the talks were free and frank. Mr. Justice Jain had reiterated what he had stated in his letter. He refused to divulge the details of the talks.

About the revived agitations by advocates in North Karnataka and the ultimatum being issued by some, Mr. Krishna snapped back: "Ultimatums can be issued to the Chief Minister not to the Chief Justice.'' He also stressed the point that the Government did not have much say in the matter, and it was for the High Court to decide.
