Keep abreast of the latest, doctors told

HUBLI: P.S. Prabhakaran, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, has underscored the need for medical professionals to update themselves and keep abreast of the developments in the field of medical sciences.

Speaking at the 15th Graduation Ceremony of the SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital here on Wednesday, Dr. Prabhakaran felt that challenges in the medical profession have increased owing to various factors.

The innovations in the medical sciences and increased awareness among the people about the medical sciences have increased the responsibilities of the medical professionals, he remarked.

Mentioning about educational institutions that have helped the students in becoming experts in their field through adapting modern technologies, he lauded the contribution of SDME Society.

Presiding over the function, Veerendra Heggade, President, SDME Society, called upon the graduating students to be more professional in their work and at the same time treat the patients with utmost care.

Welcoming the gathering, C. Bhaskar Rao, Principal, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, listed the achievements of the college. He said the college is collaborating with an American university and several foreign dental institutes in an attempt to make advanced treatment techniques available to the people here.

Gold medallists

As many as four gold medals were presented to outstanding students. They are Vikram Memorial Gold Medal (Oral and Maxilofacial Surgery) Swati Padiwal; T. Ashok Memorial Gold Medal (Orthodontics)Sugnesh Patel; Dr. Pradeep Jayna Gold Medal (Prosthodontics) Shantala Naik; and President Gold Medal (Best Outgoing Student) Suneetha Bhat.

Y.S. Rai, Dean, SDM College of Medical Sciences and Hospital, administered the oath to the graduates. Shadia compered and K.V. Prasad proposed a vote of thanks. Niranjan Kumar, Medical Director, Yashovarma, and Jinendra Prasad, Secretary, SDM Society, were present.
